Anti docking argument exposed

John Bower MRCVS, a former BVA President, is completely contradictory in his allegations about the "pain" of docking.

In his anti-docking submission to the Scottish Parliament he wrote, “Pain is possibly the least powerful argument as it is so slight”

In his latest letter to a veterinary publication he writes, "Of course there is pain, which is why puppies yell and distress the bitch, the owner, the nurses and the vets".

In his latest letter, John Bower, the former BVA President, also states "Who needs science: docking is just a totally unnecessary, cruel and cosmetic operation...".

This confirms our assertion all along, namely that the anti- docking lobby has no scientific support for its arguments - so little that Mr. Bower now discounts the importance of scientific evidence and strives for a purely emotive/ irrational campaign.

Given earlier undertakings by the Government that it would only legislate on scientific evidence, rather than hearsay / anecdote, how can any MP trust the anti docking arguments?
