Do you wish to boycott vets strongly against docking?

Many members have contacted us pointing out that if you have a tooth ache, you visit a dentist who you trust, if you are ill, you visit a doctor who you trust, this is common sense of course.

As a docked breed owner would you take your dog to a vet who is so against tail docking, that he / she has advertised this fact for the world to see? Being so prejudiced against docked dogs can their clinical judgment be trusted 100% in the case of your docked dog?

You might decide that vets who are displaying anti docking posters or who have signed up to support the "Vets Against Docking" site, do NOT deserve your custom?

The Vets Against Docking site lists over 500 vets vehemently opposed to docking, with comments, although many of the vets there are not practitioners. Please bear in mind that 500 out of well over 10,000 vets in the UK, means that less than 5% have signed the Vets Against Docking site. Where the figure of 90% of vets are against docking came from is anybodies guess!

Some anti docking vets like to compare the fact that their number dwarfs the number of vets who signed the "Review of the scientific aspects and veterinary opinions of tail docking" in June 2002 and who agreed for their names to be published on the Vets For Docking site. They are right and wrong to draw your attention to this.

They are right to point it out as it is true, but what they fail to point out is that this was a "one off" exercise by the Vets For Docking site back in 2002 which was in support of a single document, but more importantly, the majority of the many hundreds of vets who currently dock for CDB members, do not wish to advertise the fact that they legally dock, for fear of the unjustified recrimination metered out by the RCVS.

Check if your vet has signed the Vets Against Docking site here and see what he / she has to say about docked dogs, their owners and breeders !!
